News Update - January 2012

Quantum Air Technology is starting 2012 with a major promotion programme. Current changes in the NHS make this a very good time for an awareness campaign for our innovative products and technologies. QAT will be attending at least two major health sector conferences/exhibitions this year to exhibit and demonstrate their flag ship product the Portable Compliant Isolator (PCI). Conferences/exhibitions already booked are as follows:
Modernising The NHS: Supporting The Frontline
QE11 Conference Centre,
London.
Wednesday 21st March 2012.
The Clinical Pharmacy Congress: The Future of Clinical Pharmacy
ExCel,
London.
Friday/Saturday 20 – 21st April 2012.
Quite apart from healthcare applications, the PCI, is fast becoming an industry standard for in-the-field PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) work. The virtue of PCR is that it allows very small amounts of DNA to be quickly magnified until there is a large enough quantity for subsequent analysis. For the quickest response this requires to be done in the field, however, a very clean and contained environment is needed if contamination of the suspect DNA is to be avoided. It is also essential from a forensisc aspect to keep any evidence intact and free from background contamination. The PCI with its positive and negative pressure run modes and battery operation has proved ideal in providing these controlled emvironments in mobile laboratories.
In-the-fieldPCR was first used by the Military to investigate and diagnose biochemical threats. The PCI has been in operational CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) use with NATO forces for over one year. It is part of the equipment carried on a specially modified vehicle designed to rapidly respond to biochemical threat situations.
Such technology, developed for military application, is now available for civilian users. Specific examples are gathering forensic evidence at a crime scene or investigating the spread of disease in cattle. This technology is now being offered to the commercial sector and is cost effective to implement as virtually all the equipment required is “off-the-shelf”.
The following links provide information and case studies on in-the-field PCR operations
Medical Equipment
The PCI is also in significant demand for MABS preparation and clinical trials. It is ideally suited to both these applications. Hospitals are using the PCI for most aseptic applications including chemotherapy drug dispensing, infection control, clinical trials, gene therapy and out of hours drug dispensing. PCI’s are now in use in Spire hospital pharmacies and equip virtually every Spire hospital which has an aseptic suite. Several PCI’s are being used in clinical trials across the UK and the first three units licensed for pharmaceutical production are in use at Biomed – New Zealand. Quantum Air Technology also designs and supplies digital control systems for other companies isolators which now include full integration of isolator/VHP systems.
Defence Equipment
After successfully delivering over 600 NBC control panels for use in Saudi Army armoured personnel vehicles, QAT is now engaged in the next generation of panel. Additional features and standards compliances should ensure the new products have a global market place and can work in the latest technology vehicle environments.
